50th Anniversary
On March 30, 1957 Mount Miguel's first principal, Melvin C. Grant announced that the school would be completed by August and ready for the fist classes in September. He revealed the steering committee's decision that the school's theme would be American Heritage, with special attention to California's Gold Rush period. The colors would be red and black and the nickname "49ers". A couple of days after this announcement, students from the Grossmont High School District who would attend Mount Miguel voted on the school's nickname and colors. Overwhelmingly, they voted to change the name to the "Matadors" but kept the colors red and black. On September 10, 1957, Mount Miguel opened for classes to 1,400 students. Because of delays due to rain, a plumbers' strike, and electrical problems, the school's facilities were not quite complete when classes began. The cafeteria was not finished until December and the gymnasium was opened a couple of months later.

50th YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELBRATION

Join us in celebrating this one time event on Friday, October 19th, 2007. A catered dinner will be served, along with special guests and professional entertainment. In addition, we will announce the Alumni who will be inducted into the Matador Hall of Fame. Following the dinner will be the Homecoming Football Game, in conjunction with the traditional fireworks show.

Tickets=$20.00 for ages 5 and up (Includes Dinner and Football Game entrance)
